We are seeking to appoint a lecturer (Teaching & Scholarship) to contribute to a new MSc program in Applied Data Science. Topics to be taught will include Programming, Statistics, Machine Learning, Big Data, and Data Visualization. The program will equip science graduates with a range of Data Science skills that can be used across scientific disciplines, either in academia or industry. The appointee will support the development of course material for the new programme, will deliver some teaching for the course, and work to provide an excellent student experience for students. There may also be opportunities to gain experience in the admissions and marketing aspects of the course development.
We particularly welcome and encourage applications from female candidates, and candidates from minority ethnic backgrounds, who are under-represented within the academic staff group in the Department of Chemistry. Flexibility is offered and the role can be undertaken part-time by agreement.
This role is available on a fixed-term basis for 36 months.

To develop and apply innovative and appropriate teaching techniques and material that create interest, understanding, and enthusiasm amongst students
To lecture, lead seminars, tutorials and other forms of postgraduate teaching
To contribute to the development of teaching and learning strategies
To undertake effectively a range of administrative and managerial responsibilities associated with the course
PhD in Science, Maths, Computer Science or a closely related subject, and appropriate academic teaching qualification or willingness to complete this
Specialist knowledge of data science, and its application to scientific problems
Well-developed analytical, IT and communication skills with the ability to present at conferences
Knowledge, ability, experience and commitment to designing and delivering teaching and learning at undergraduate level chemistry to enthuse and engage students
Commitment to and Understanding of Equality and Diversity Issues
Demonstrable capacity for creative thinking and planning with attention to detail, a positive attitude and commitment to personal development
