Introduction

The Master of Applied Finance provides you with the skills for a wide range of financial fields. It’s designed for professionals with an unrelated degree who want to gain the specialised skills for a career in the finance industry.

These skills include concepts and techniques related to corporate finance, investment and financial risk analysis, restructuring and governance, an understanding of current issues in international investment, and the development of portfolio management strategies.

The AUT Business School is part of the CFA Institute University Affiliation Program. The Master of Applied Finance curriculum is based on the Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK) from the CFA Program and this degree will position you well to obtain the Chartered Financial Analyst designation – a globally respected and recognised investment credential.

Admission Requirements

Must have completed a bachelor’s degree (in any discipline) with a B- grade average in papers at level 7 or equivalent

Courses Units

  • The Master of Applied Finance is taught over three 12-week trimesters. Each trimester includes 12 weeks of teaching with exams scheduled in week 13.
  • All papers are 15 points with the exception of the Research Project in Applied Finance which is 45 points. Textbooks are included in your course fees.
  • There are three key elements: Core professional knowledge and skills in finance (75 points), associated business knowledge and skills (60 points) and a research project in applied finance (45 points).

More Information

  • IELTS (Academic) 6.5 overall with all bands 6.0 or higher; TOEFL iBT score of 90; Certificate in English for Academic Study (CertEAS) with A grade; GIE with B+ grade; CAE minimum overall score of 176; PTE minimum overall score of 58.
  • IELTS may be waived (at the discretion of the Programme Director):
  • For a student who has completed a qualification, the language of instruction for which was English, and which was awarded within the last 3 years
  • For a student who has lived and/or worked in an English speaking environment for 3 years
