Biomedical Sciences was founded as a new academic field that links biosciences such as genomics and neurology with the development of cutting-edge medical technology related to organ regeneration and artificial organs. This field has made rapid developments and becoming increasingly vital. There has also been an increase in social demand due to the rising proportion of diseases in our aging society and the development of the biotechnology industry. Kobe University is based in Kobe City, home to the Kobe Biomedical Innovation Cluster and currently planning and building other research facilities. It is essential to cultivate individuals who can work in biomedical sciences.

The Biomedical Sciences major (Master’s Program) is aimed at students who have acquired a wide range of specialist knowledge and skills in fields outside medicine, dentistry, and veterinary science. Through teaching the core elements and applications of the latest fields in bioscience and medicine, starting with genomics, this program aims to foster researchers and educators who can contribute to future cutting-edge research in bioscience and medicine. This program will also produce individuals who can use their high level of specialist knowledge in fields linked to industry such as biotechnology, the environment, medical care, and pharmaceuticals.
